Knothole Seats

While the Rose Garden is the most well known sports venue in the city of Portland, another siginficant one is PGE Park (PGE=Pacific Gas and Electric (Correction – It’s Portland General Electric)).

The stadium was built in 1926. It hosts the AAA Portland Beavers baseball team (Padres affiliate), the Portland Timbers (soccer team), and the Portland State Vikings football team. The Vikings are currently coached by former NFL Head Coach Jerry Glanville.

It really is kind of a goofy looking place. It sits on a rectangular block and probably has the best “knothole” views you can find anywhere. The photo at right is taken from a public sidewalk. Odd, huh?

100_7794The most famous moment at PGE? Rodney McCray crashing through the outfield wall (YouTube link).

PGE Park hosts the 2009 AAA All-Star Game.

Hey Matt, the sponsor for the stadium in Porland, Oregon is Portland General Electric (PGE) not Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), which is down in California. Just wanted to clear that up. I am a life long Oregonian and I just happened to be at the game last night holding the great big giant flag during the National Anthem.
